Helping women face menopause at work with confidence, clarity and unwavering strength

Hello, I’m Amanda.  Thanks for dropping by....

I vividly remember when menopause came into my life and everything changed.  It was a couple of months before my 48th birthday.  The first sign was when I started missing my periods. 'Ooh' I thought, 'that's OK then'. I thought (naively) that menopause was just about your periods stopping. How wrong I was !

This was swiftly followed by the sleepless nights and exhaustion - hot flushes, sweats, the constant effort of throwing the bed covers off and back on again. When that didn't work, going downstairs into the garden to feel the cool night air. This consequential lack of sleep started to take its toll.

My work started to suffer.  I just couldn't remember simple fundamental things. So frustrating and scary, racking my brains but nothing came.  Brain fog? What's that?  It just felt like something had shifted and I didn’t recognise myself any more.

I began to think something was wrong with me, am I going mad? Not really knowing exactly what was happening, I just “pushed through, silently, alone" too afraid to speak to anyone or ask for help, I wasn't even sure what I would be asking help with.  It didn't occur to me the symptoms I was feeling were down to the menopause.

What I really needed was understanding, some help, a connection, and to know that I wasn’t alone.  My first port of call was to see my GP who suggested anti-depressants, something I definitely didn't want.  I therefore decided to do my own research, and after a lot of time spent searching, I eventually I got the help I needed from a menopause specialist doctor.

So when I say, ’I’ve been where you are, right now… and I know exactly how you’re feeling’’ it's from experience, not just empty words.

That’s why I created She Matters Health.  I want to help women feel supported, informed, and empowered through their menopause journey, particularly whilst holding down a demanding job, and further into midlife.

Because when we share our stories, we find our strength again. And we remember that we still matter - deeply.

If any of this resonates with you and you're experiencing low energy, self-doubt, anxiety, or just downright confused, literally hot and bothered, and it's affecting your home and work life, you’re not alone.

Me At Work

I have a demanding full-time job, which has at times, caused me great anxiety.  The countless times I have experienced a full on hot flush is more than I care to remember.  My embarrassment is evident, my neck and face hot and bright red and I can't wait to dash to the bathroom and cool my face down.

Trying to manage menopause in the workplace can be a challenge.  It's still something (in my experience) not freely or openly discussed, almost taboo.

It's always been something I felt I had to hide, or ignore, certainly not something I felt I could openly discuss, afraid it would impact my job or prospects.

Having said that, it's an area I am happy to see positive changes occurring, albeit in the UK where I am based.  Click here for more information on that subject.

I hope the tools and resources on here will go towards helping you to strive, not just survive your menopause journey.

I’m not a medical professional. I’ve walked this path and now I want to help you feel confident, informed, and supported through your own menopause journey.

My opinions are related to my own personal experiences.
